Pandora Tomorrow will revolutionize the online world. Not for us though.
Confessions Week 1
Ladies gents and pre pubescent boys, welcome to the first - of many to come – weekly editorials exclusively on Toocubed (where else!). Each week one of our editors will speak their mind on the latest trends, games, and ideas in the gaming industry. So lets get this show on the road!
First off I’m going to give you the inside scoop on my gaming life, as of late. I skated down to the mall today in hopes of getting my hands on a brand new copy of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. But apparently we Canadians get the shit end of the stick and everything arrives a few days later than our neighboring Americans. I’m not complaining – a day is a day – but I certainly wasted all that energy for nothing, well almost nothing. I finally picked up a copy of Battlefield 1942 for PC. It took a while to install and when I got it up and running I couldn’t find a stable game (Xbox Live were art thou!?), so I’m yet to discover the magic to be had with that gem, but I’m sure I’ll get into that tomorrow.
I’m growing increasingly ecstatic about Pandora Tomorrow and it’s revolutionary Online mode, dare I say revolutionary before the game is even out? Hell yes! Have you seen the trailers for this baby! It’s really shit that Cube owners loose out on the critical multiplayer component though. Luckily for me I’ll be picking up the Xbox Live version later this month. Surprisingly (or not?) I’m actually anticipating going through the single player campaign first. The story certainly appears more action packed and interesting than before, and the visuals are nothing short of remarkable. I can’t wait to see all the new downloadable content via Live in the coming months too. I also can’t wait to see how the GC version turns out and if Ubisoft decides to throw in some extra goodies to compensate for the delayed release date. The Cube version also appears to feature a GBA – GC link, but I couldn’t care less, aside from the mandatory feature in Crystal Chronicles, Nintendo’s “CONNECTED” campaign seems more like a novelty now than an innovative way to play your games. What I want to see Nintendo do is cut this GBA & LAN nonsense and hop on the online bandwagon. Get some truly online games up in there! (Pandora Tomorrow for starters!)
To update all you fans out there on the status of Toocubed 2.0, I’d have to say things are looking brighter than ever. We’re working on a deal with GameTrailers.com to feature unlimited video access to all your favorite games, as well as new forum skins, an innovative way to customize your site design, and a completely new look. If things pick up in the next week, we can look forward to a summer 2004 release or even earlier.
Twin Snakes looks absolutely gorgeous, I’m really bummed out that I’m not playing it right now, I’m also bummed out that Nintendo hasn’t sent me my review copy yet (Everything is slow in Canada!). I’ve heard lots of above average praise around the web, most reviews mentioned “If you played the original, there’s not much new in terms of substance” but that was 5 years ago. I can hardly remember the gameplay, let alone the basic structure of the intriguing plot. I’m certainly looking forward to reliving one of the greatest games of all time – for the first time – on my GameCube. I also heard it’s one of the best looking GC games too, which certainly surprised me. After seeing the latest screens from E3, I was amazed at how far Silicon Knights has brought it since then.
Speaking of Silicon Knights, they really need to get busy on Too Human and release that damn game! It’s been in development longer than Eternal Darkness was (and still is!). I can’t wait to see what other original and innovate titles they pull out in 2004, I wouldn’t mind seeing a new Legend of Zelda made through the collaboration of SK and Nintendo featuring the more mature link we saw at Spaceworld oh so long ago. Rumors of Silicon Knights actually doing that surfaced last month as a matter of fact, but Nintendo already commented on a sequel to Wind Waker. So that’s out of the question…for now.
Denis Dyack (of Sillicon Knights) by the way, is a complete genius. He’s getting quite the attention and media exposure for all his teams work on Twin Snakes. I got to see him talk at Nintendo’s press event last year in Toronto, but missed out on an opportunity to actually speak with the man . Speaking of press events, if anyone over the age of 18 is interested in working for us and lives in LA, contact us now! We want to be at E3!
Well then that’s it for this week, you lazy bastards. Next week expect another one of these from another member of staff, until then, take care!
