Gamecube 101

By Lee · September 1, 2004

As of May 2004, Nintendo has no longer been incorporating the digital output required to support progressive scan for the Nintendo Gamecube.

All Gamecube's with the model number DOL-101 do not have the port which allows the console to be connected to a High Definition Television (HDTV) therefore disallowing progressive scan. Nintendo has stated that this feature was removed because an insignificant number of people (allegedly 1%) made use of this feature. However, the component to utilize this function was not sold to the general public and was only available through special order via Nintendo. For those that mistakenly purchased a model DOL-101 Gamecube, Nintendo have launched the following website to address the issue.

Nintendo have also stated that they will continue to make games in the future that make use of the progressive scan feature found in earlier Gamecube models.
