It has been quite a while since we have heard anything about an original Sonic game. But after all the remakes, finally there is something new to look forward to: Sonic Heroes.

Our good old friends at Sega are trying something new with their latest addition to the Sonic library. In Heroes you will not just be controlling one character of your choice, but a whole team of characters. There are 4 different teams to choose from, each team includes 3 different characters.

The Teams are as followed:

Team Sonic: Sonic, Tails and Knuckles (no surprises here)
Team Dark: Shadow, Omega, and Rogue
Team Rose: Amy Rose, Big the Cat, and Cream
Team Chaotix: Espico, Vector, Charmy (if you can’t remember these 3, you’ll learn to love them)

Each characters special abilities adds an element of strategy into the game.

Each team has their own strengths, and of course, their weaknesses. However, after you have chosen your team, don’t expect you will be able to run right through a whole level using just one of the characters to lead the way. You will need to use the 3 different formations: The Speed, Power and Flight formations; each is led by a different character within the group. This is a very key part of the game and you will have to figure out which formation is needed to pass certain parts of each stage.

There are going to be 14 stages in Heroes, and each one will pan out differently according to which team you’ve chosen, and which path you choose to follow. Each team will have different objectives per level, of which they must successfully complete to move on. Multiplayer was once just a rumor in the early stages of production, but now it is a sure thing, giving even more depth to an already heavily detailed looking game.

You’ll be hitting some pretty insane speeds in the racing parts of the game.

Heroes is already looking better than Sonic Adventure 2, which is surprising seeing how Heroes has not even got a release date yet. Sega has also stated that this is the biggest adventure Sonic will have ever seen, and I think it’s safe to say, we will not be disappointed.

Don’t expect to be playing Sonic Heroes anytime soon; but do expect that the moment it hits the shelves, you’ll find a fully detailed Review right here.
