Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

It seems so long ago that we raced with our favorite Nintendo characters through fire, snow and mountainous tracks blasting our fellow racers off the edge.

Well, racing fans rejoice that experience is coming right back at you larger than ever and it's coming straight to the Cube. Not only is Nintendo planning the obvious improvement on the visuals, but they are adding some new play mechanics to the floor. It's still the same basic concept of racing from start to finish, but now there are obviously some improvements and additions to bring variety to the game.

You’ll race across many familiar locales from past and present Nintendo games.

The first notable addition is the option to race with two characters on the same kart. Mario driving shotgun and Luigi dropping shells off the back.

Before you begin the race, you'll have to have to pick two riders and a car to use. The available riders are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, two koopa troopas, Donkey and Diddy Kong, Baby Mario, Baby Bowser, Wario, his brother Warluigi, Bowser, and Yoshi. These characters will all fit into separate cars, and all have individual unique attributes, with advantages and disadvantages over one-another, making it equally challenging no matter who you pick. Each character possesses individual special power-ups they can use against other racers. For example, the Mario Brothers’ team can throw a special fireball that splits into numerous balls.

Graphically, this game looks pretty standard for the Gamecube, while it offers slick cartoon like graphics, it looks to bring no compelling visuals gamers haven't already seen. All the Nintendo characters look clear, rich in color, and very detailed. But none of it’s going to “wow” you.

What might “wow” you though, is the levels you will be racing through. And the circuits found in Mario Kart are no surprise, you’ll find tracks that resemble Hyrule, an Isle Delfino look-a-like, and many other locales from many past Mario and Nintendo games.

Having Yoshi as a partner will definitelly make things interesting.

The multiplayer for Mario Kart looks very promising, considering this game was virtually built off the concept that it would be solely used for multiplayer. Double Dash!! supports the use of LAN plan, but this is only available to the people who have more than 1 Gamecube, and more than 1 T.V., not to mention a broadband adapter too.

This title is sure to hit home with many Kart fans of the past, and it will definitely attract some newcomers to, with its insane multiplayer, nostalgic Nintendo appeal, and simply killer gameplay. Look for more on Mario Kart: Double Dash!! in the future. It is set to release in December, watch for the review then.
