Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow

A little over a year ago Ubisoft released the blockbuster stealth action game ‘Splinter Cell’, it blew gamers away with it’s leading edge visuals and technology, impressive plot and gameplay, and it gave everyone a chance to be all the Clancy they could be. And Pandora Tomorrow doesn’t stray far from it’s predecessor in terms of gameplay which means you'll be playing as ultrasecret operative Sam Fisher, the Third Echelon agent who always uses stealth and elements of surprise to his advantage.

Pandora's tale will once again unfold through superb cinematic cut scenes.

Fisher has some new moves and he’s now noticeable quicker on his feet, he can also whistle to draw guards attention to a particular spot (then circle round to set up an ambush), as well as aim and shoot while hanging upside down from pipes. Also, his split jump – which allowed him to prop himself up in narrow alley ways – has been modified so he can now lean on either leg, allowing him to scale up further than he usually would. Additionally Fisher also has a new swat turn maneuver where he peaks around a corner and by pressing the jump button, he’ll be able to stealthily whisk to the other side of the doorway - this is useful for scoping out a potentially dangerous area without being spotted. The heads up display does a better job now, it indicates your visibility, as well as indicating if its clear to toss a body aside. Sam will once again get acquainted with his signature SC20K multipurpose assault rifle, whom he retrieves from an arms dealer during the Jerusalem level. Alternative non-lethal weapons will make a return as well, making it even easier for players to get through a level without killing anyone. Fisher will also have a new camouflage green outfit for the Kunami Camp level, which takes place in a lush jungle, complete with swaying tall grass, swamp, birds, animals, palms, and camo face paint for Sam.

Fisher's night vision goggles have never looked so sweet.

Unsurprisingly, enemy A.I. is now much smarter and there are now different levels of alertness. Get spotted once, and the guard will investigate. Get spotted again, someone may call for re-enforcements, or strap on a bullet proof vest. Furthermore enemies will now take innocent bystanders as hostages, and there will be times where Fisher will need to evade enemies with night vision goggles and other light amplification units (flashlights for example).

Ubisoft is very tight lipped about the games plot structure, but expect the story to mirror world geopolitics and to offer some logical extensions of current situations. The game will also offer a more dynamic view of Sam’s organization - the NSA – as well as Sam’s personality. This time however, Sam won't be the only operative in the field. The game does acknowledge that there are other agents in the field doing their own business, and we expect at least one rendezvous with one of them.

So what this means is Pandora Tomorrow's visuals will BLOW YOUR PANTS OFF!

From a graphical standpoint, Pandora Tomorrow is pushing the series further than it’s predecessor ever could, and although we’ve only seen the magnificent Xbox videos, the GameCube version will look strikingly similar. Environments looks sharper and more defined, and the lighting and shadow effects need to be seen first hand to be truly appreciated. The game also seems to be running slightly smoother than the already very smooth original. Pandora Tomorrow will now feature a new original score, as well as an original soundtrack, and many of the actors from the original will be reprising their roles for the voice overs – veteran actor Michael Ironside will once provide the undeniably cool voice of Sam Fisher.

Pandora will also include a revolutionary online multiplayer mode for the Playstation 2 and Xbox versions. Online play for the Cube version is still undecided, but don’t cross your fingers for something like this. Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow is shaping up to be one of the first blockbusters of 2004, it’s scheduled to hit shelves this March, look out for this one.
